A pair of coupled wave equations for electromagnetic radiation and electron‐hole pairs in the Wannier limit is solved for the case of an unbounded crystal. The solution is discussed with respect to the following phenomena: (i) excitonic resonances, (ii) Coulomb enhancement of continuum, (iii) local current structure, (iv) spatial dispersion.
