The cooling history of a strange star surrounded by a thin crust of ordinary matter is followed by solving analytically the general-relativistic equation of heat transfer across the crust. The surface temperature of the strange star is found to be lower than that of a neutron star (ordinary with core condensates) of the same age. This provides a definite observational signature for these exotic objects, so far the first quantitative one to be proposed.
