Trans-vaginal electrocardiographic recording during fetal distress documented paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia of 300 beats/min and atrial fibrillation before caesarean section.
Case Report (n=1)
Trans-vaginal electrocardiography can successfully document fetal arrhythmias like paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia during labour.
Trans-vaginal ECG may enable fetal arrhythmia documentation in labor; case report leaves open clinical utility and need for prospective validation.
A case is reported of fetal paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia detected during fetal distress. The trans‐vaginal technique was used for the electrocardiographic recording. Fetal distress was demonstrated by measuring fetal blood pH taken from the scalp and umbilical cord. During a 2‐hour recording, before caesarean section was performed, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia of 300 b/min and atrial fibrillation were observed. The ECG of the infant was completely normal 8 hours after birth.

Carretti et al. (1974) conducted a case report in Fetal paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and fetal distress (n=1). Trans-vaginal electrocardiogram was evaluated on Detection of arrhythmias. Trans-vaginal electrocardiographic recording during fetal distress documented paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia of 300 beats/min and atrial fibrillation before caesarean section.
