A novel structure with a pair of symmetric E-shaped slots is applied in the design of ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with band-notched characteristic. Based on the proposed technique, a printed monopole antenna is present. The band-notched characteristic is achieved by introducing a pair of E-shaped slots to reduce the interference of the existing wireless local area network (WLAN) band (fc = 5.2 GHz) and the required UWB bandwidth is also acquainted. To validate our design concept, the antenna is studied theoretically and experimentally. The results show that the proposed antenna has good UWB-related performances and band-notched function. The proposed symmetric E-shaped slot is very effective and convenient to design the UWB antennas where band-notch is required.
