The construction and performance of apparatus for the measurement of the magnetization of thin films, by means of the Faraday effect, is described. ( I, H ) loops can be displayed on an oscilloscope, and continuous readings of the magnetization, as a function of time and applied field, recorded. The advantages of this method for the study of Barkhausen discontinuities, magnetic viscosity and creep are described.
