Dichloroneopentylsilene, generated in situ from trichlorovinylsilane and tBuLi, reacts smoothly with alkynes R C C R′ to give silacyclobutenes of the type 1. The compound with R = Me3Si and R′ = Ph could be characterized X-ray crystallographically. The Cl-substituents on the Si atom can, for example, be replaced by H and F.
