Literature review summarizes chemical and biological synthetic strategies for chiral sulfoxides, highlighting their critical value as pharmaceutical agents and asymmetric building blocks.
The chiral sulfoxides have received considerable research attention due to the occurrence of some of them in nature, such as leinamycin, as well as some synthetic sulfoxide compounds exhibit significant biological activity, like esomeprazole and its various derivatives used as antiulcer drugs. The chiral sulfoxides are relevant chiral building blocks, chiral ligands, and chiral auxiliaries. The current review article represents a survey of the literature covering the recent synthetic strategies, chemical and biological, leading to chiral sulfoxides.
