CMR and CT identify a suspected left atrial mass on TTE as extracardiac adipose tissue.
Case Report (n=1)
Extracardiac adipose tissue can mimic an intracavitary left atrial mass on transthoracic echocardiography, highlighting the importance of multimodality imaging.
Answers are grounded in this paper and cite their sources.
Echocardiography alone may misclassify extracardiac fat as intracavitary mass; this case extends the differential but leaves open generalizability.

Ino et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Extracardiac adipose tissue mimicking an intracavitary left atrial mass (n=1). Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography vs. Transthoracic echocardiography was evaluated. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography demonstrated that a suspected intracavitary left atrial mass on echocardiography was actually extracardiac adipose tissue.
