Benchtop evaluation demonstrates early quench detection in REBCO magnets using fused strain and magnetic signals, suggesting reduced thermal damage risk.
Early quench detection in REBCO fusion magnets by fused strain-rate and magnetization sensing. Two prompt precursors fire a sensor-fusion detector well ahead of the terminal voltage, cutting the MIITs the winding must survive; an in-winding nitrogen-vacancy diamond magnetometer supplies the magnetization channel and tolerates the neutron environment with margin. Protection architecture at the model-and-bench stage, not a qualified system.
