Emergency TEVAR successfully treated a ruptured acute Stanford type B aortic dissection with cardiac tamponade in a 77-year-old man, though it was complicated by postoperative paraplegia.
Why the study?
Cardiac tamponade caused by acute type B aortic dissection is rare and requires emergency management.
Case Report (n=1)
No
Acute Stanford type B aortic dissection can rarely cause cardiac tamponade, and while emergency TEVAR is a viable lifesaving option, it carries a risk of severe complications such as paraplegia.
Cardiac tamponade warrants consideration in acute type B dissection; this case extends rare reports but leaves optimal strategies open.

Nota et al. (2023) conducted a case report in Acute Stanford type B aortic dissection with cardiac tamponade (n=1). Emergency thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) was evaluated on Clinical outcome. Emergency TEVAR successfully treated a ruptured acute Stanford type B aortic dissection with cardiac tamponade in a 77-year-old man, though it was complicated by postoperative paraplegia.
