Chemical reactions of the functional epoxy group of γ‐glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane in aqueous solution have been studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). It was found that the epoxy group reacts with the silanol group forming a SiOCC structure, and concurrently reacts with water. The kinetics of these reactions were studied.
