The experiences with the medical screening of 2988 Indo-Chinese refugees on arrival in Sydney are discussed, as are the findings of tuberculosis, syphilis, alimentary parasites, malaria and leprosy. Observations are made on the unequal male to female ratio in both adults and children. The routine prophylactic drug administration programme is detailed. Difficulties with drug compliance are mentioned. The findings are discussed, and demonstrate a case to have the overseas medical screening complemented at the local level in Australia.
