It is shown that simple screening theory will explain the change in solvent Knight shift on alloying for every dilute solution of an alkali in an alkali on which observations have so far been made. No recourse is made to semi-empirical potentials or to size effects. On the present interpretation the experiments give direct information on the sign and magnitude of the displacement of charge in the d component around a dissolved ion.
