Gossypol induced a dose‐dependent potassium leakage from boar spermatozoa suspended either in Krebs‐Ringer phosphate buffer or in isotonic tris‐HCl buffer. It had, however, practically no effect on the spermatozoal intracellular sodium ion content. As spermatozoal motility arrest was observed at a much lower gossypol concentration, the gossypol anti‐motility effect does not seem to have stemmed from potassium leakage.
