The author directs considerable attention to the different methods utilized in diagnosing lesions of the rectum, anus and pelvic colon, and emphasizes direct observation with instruments. The organization of the book is systematic and useful. The illustrations are of considerable aid in clarifying the text. The therapeutic methods include a complete account of those employed by proctologists, with especial emphasis on those which may be easily utilized in the office and the hospital. The chapters on hemorrhoids and malignant tumors are exceptionally fine. The book should be useful to both the surgeon and the internist.
