The recently derived model for Cr 2+ (II) ions occupying trigonal sites in GaAs is extended to account for phonon scattering. It is shown that the resonances seen in tunnel junction phonon spectroscopy experiments and some of those observed in thermal conductivity scattering experiments on chromium-doped GaAs crystals can be explained satisfactorily. The effects of applied uniaxial stress are examined and the predicted results are in agreement with thermal conductivity experiments. The significance of the strength of the Cr 2+ (II) ion-lattice coupling is also discussed briefly.
