The shear/peel bond strengths obtained with an integral stainless steel bracket-base combination are compared with the equivalent values for foil-mesh and photo-etched bases. The site of failure is also investigated. Possible reasons for the observed differences are discussed. Modifications to the integral base, and to the bonding technique with the photo-etched base, are suggested.
