A series of low-temperature (≤360 °C) topotactic reactions can be used to introduce mixed valency into the triple-layered perovskite, K2La2Ti3O10. The combination of monovalent ion exchange, divalent ion exchange, and reductive intercalation works well to produce the new titanate, Na2-x+yCax/2La2Ti3O10 (x = 1.22, y = 0.32). Electronic properties, characterized by magnetic and transport measurements, indicate localization effects; these are attributed to the random distribution of the cations and vacancies in the compound's interlayer.
