The fluorescence of phosphors NaLn1–xEuxTiO4(Ln = La, Gd, Y, Lu) with ordered Sr2TiO4 structure is reported. The unactivated host lattices show broad-band emission peaking at about 450 nm. The quenching temperature of this fluorescence is below room temperature. The relative intensities of the Eu3 + emission lines depend strongly on the choice of Ln. This variation can be accounted for by a varying linear component of the crystal field. Although the requirements for efficient Eu3 +-activated phosphors are satisfied by the phosphors NaLnTiO4, the efficiencies of the fluorescence are not very high. This is ascribed to the anisotropic nature of the crystal structure.
