From the results of eight reactions it was deduced that the four compounds, XYC=CH–CNaX′Y′, X′Y′C=CH–CNaXY, X′Y′C=CH–CNaX′Y′, XYC=CH–CNaXY, can be produced in the condensation of the ethoxymethylene compound XYC=CHOC2H5 with the sodio-methylene compound CHNaX′Y′, where each of X, X′, Y, and Y′ represents either –CN or –COOC2H5.
