T is proper at a Genetics Congress to try to tidy up our ideas on I certain recurrent problems one of the chief of which is that of the units of hteredity. I should like now to show that a distinction may be drawn in size and in classification between the units that work effectively in the living organism and the undierlying physical units which may be disclosed by experiment.
