In this review an account is given of some recent developments in ferroelectrics. It is hoped that they will be intelligible to the non-specialist, and also of interest to those working in the field. Particular attention is paid to recent experimental work which the reviewer believes to be of special theoretical interest. After an introduction and a short section on domain switching an account of a number of selected ferroelectrics is given. They have been chosen for the general reasons given above, but more detailed reasons are given in the first section of the review.
