Crustal deformations, accompanied by eruptions of both basaltic and andesitic volcanoes, have proved surprisingly systematic. In 1958, K. MOGI presented a model of pressure source of explosive or implosive types beneath volcanoes in order to interpret the deforma-tions observed at Sakurazima and in Hawaii. In the present paper, an alternative model with pressure sources of thrust tpye is proposed and proves to be applicable to the observations.
