We report a prospective, double-blinded, randomised, placebo-controlled study of the clinical value of naloxone for reversing ethanol intoxication. We selected 19 consecutive unconscious patients with proven ethanol overdose. Eleven patients had pure ethanol intoxication, and 8 had ethanol and benzodiazepine or barbiturate intoxication. Toxicologic screening was done systematically. When the randomisation code was broken, 10 patients had been treated with 0.8 mg of intravenous naloxone and 8 with placebo. The alcohol values (mean ±...References1. LYONANTONY LJ.
