The giant magnetoresistance and magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic Ni/sub 0.5/Co/sub 0.5/O exchange-biased NiFe/Co/Cu/Co/NiFe spin-valves were studied. The samples were prepared by rf-diode sputtering and studied in the low field regime at room temperature so that they may be applicable for magnetic recording reading heads. A resistance change as large as 6% in a field of less than 20 Oe was obtained in multilayers of NiFe(60 /spl Aring/)/Co(15 /spl Aring/)/Cu(22 /spl Aring/)/Co(15 /spl Aring/)/NiFe(30 /spl Aring/)/NiCoO(300 /spl Aring/)/Si.>
