An extended 6*6 k.p Hamiltonian model is used to study the electronic properties of zincblende semiconductor heterostructures. The effects of conduction-valence band coupling and valence band mixing on Ga 1-x Al x As-GaAs quantum well states such as nonparabolicity, effective masses and density of states are discussed.
