Measurements of the rate of photosynthesis of plants of Solanum tuberosum L. var. King Edward were made, using 14CO2, at weekly intervals throughout their growth in a controlled environment. Leaf area and dry weight of sections of the plant were also determined. The results are discussed in relation to existing theories that photosynthesis can be limited by carbohydrate accumulation in the leaves, and stimulated by the initiation of tubers.
