Poly(methylphenylphosphazene) is readily derivatized by deprotonation/substitution reactions that involve sequential treatment with n-BuLi and electrophiles such as RMe2SiCl, aldehydes and ketones, CO2, and styrene. Reactions of the anionic polymer intermediate with the cyclic siloxane, (Me2SiO)3, are under investigation. The synthesis and characterization of new polyphosphazene-graft-polysiloxane copolymers prepared in this manner are reported.
