Recent large observational studies and meta-analyses indicate that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists (RAs) do not increase and in some cases may reduce the risk of recurrent acute pancreatitis in patients with type 2 diabetes or obesity while delivering major cardiometabolic benefits. Regulators advise caution of GLP-1 RA use in individuals who have a history of acute pancreatitis, but individualised prescribing with targeted monitoring is increasingly supported.
