Black and white children from low socioeconomic areas were classified according to authoritarian control attitudes expressed by the children's mothers. Subjects were tested using a running task and a jumping task. Results indicated greater jumping and running skill for children reared by nonauthoritarian mothers. Black children, regardless of the parental style, showed greater skill than white children in both jumping and running.
