[Mg 8 (THFFO) 8 ] used as a olefin polymerization catalyst component can be trapped by Ph 3 SiOH groups to form [Mg 4 (THFFO) 6 (OSiPh 3 ) 2 ] ( 1; 77%). We have also shown that in the reaction of magnesium alkoxide with AlMe 3 the methylalumoxane [Al 3 (μ 3 -O)(Me) 6 ] + unit is formed, which was isolated and characterized as the molecular compound [Al 3 Mg(μ 3 -O)(THFFO) 3 (Me) 6 ]·C 6 H 5 CH 3 ( 2; 40%) (THFFO = 2-tetrahydrofurfuroxide).
