Lead uptake by the above‐ground portion of soybean plants was found to be inversely related to soil cation exchange capacity and pH, while available soil phosphorus levels did not influence lead uptake. Lead extracted from the soil with the Bray P1 reagent was highly correlated with lead accumulation in both soybean and corn. Evidence is also presented that lead accumulation in soybeans is related to the degree to which the total sorptive capacity of the soil for Pb is satisfied.
