We present numerical and analytical results for the time delay in the response of superconducting filaments to supercritical current pulses. We have placed no restrictions regarding the behavior of the voltage across the link during the delay time, letting it develop in a natural way. We show that the delay time depends on the initial conditions of the transient, an effect that might be important for experimental situations. Our calculations suggest that it should be possible to observe the voltage present during the transient in materials other than aluminum. We compare the predicted delay times to experimental data.
