Hydrocodone was converted to various N‐acyl derivatives via a one‐pot N‐demethylation/N‐acylation protocol catalyzed by palladium(II). The procedure has also been successfully applied to several N‐methyltropane alkaloids. A plausible mechanism is suggested.
