Plasma desorption mass Spectrometry (PDMS), developed for the mass analysis of biopolymers, has found application in the analysis of anthocyanidins, an important class of color‐producing compounds in plants. Anthocyanidins, which have hitherto proven extremely difficult to analyze by any type of mass spectrometric technique, can be analyzed routinely to nanogram levels using PDMS. A simple extraction/hydrolysis scheme can be used to screen for these compounds.
