The equilibrium between strong short-ranged attraction and weak long-ranged polymeric repulsion leads to a new nanostructure found within a lipopolymeric monolayer. This structure can be reversibly induced by adjusting the temperature and molecular area. Weakly ordered alkyl-chain stripes (6 nm wide) are immersed in hydrated polymer, as represented in the picture.
