The composition dependence of the thermal-diffusion factor α of the argon–carbon dioxide system has been studied by a trennschaukel or swing separator at three different temperatures. The temperature dependence of α of this system has also been studied for a 1:1 mixture. The plot of α vs percentage of Ar shows a maximum at all the three temperatures whereas that of α vs temperature shows a negative gradient and the existence of a possible minimum. The results cannot at present be explained satisfactorily with the existing theories.
