Various commercial finish‐coat enamels of widely different compositions were evaluated using the warpage test and the cross‐bending test. Values obtained in the two tests were compared with known service data. The working ranges of these test values that meet specific requirements in a porcelain enamel coating are indicated. Cross‐bending and warpage measurements can be used to predict the performance of porcelain enamels when subjected to various types of stresses.
