The available experimental data on the vapour pressure isotope effect (VPIE) of BCl3 are interpreted in the light of the theory of isotope effects in condensed systems. It is shown that the temperature dependence of the VPIE of 10BCl3/11BCl3 observed by Rayleigh distillation is of the wrong sign. The measured normal VPIE for B35Cl3/B37Cl3 is in satisfactory agreement with that obtained by the model calculation.
