A model developed for radiative transfer in the atmosphere-sea system is applied to remotely-sensed radiances to evaluate its applicability in the determination of atmospheric turbidity. Data measured at different atmospheric turbidities over clear sea water by a multispectral scanner installed on an aeroplane have been used. Comparisons of aerosol optical thicknesses obtained from remotely-sensed data and from ground-based atmospheric transmittancc measurements are given and discussed.
