Aim:The purpose of the present study was to compare and evaluate the bonding ability of TheraCal LC to Cention-N using a total-etch adhesive system. Background: Strong adhesion between the restorative material and pulp-protective agent eliminates microleakage, prevents bacterial infiltration, and maintains the vitality of pulp, thus enhancing the durability essential for clinical success.Materials and methods: Thirty human permanent molars were gathered and split into two consecutive groups.Group I: Adhesive light curing (3MTM ESPETM Adper™ Single Bond 2) and group II: Light-cured without adhesive.Occlusal cavities with pre-determined measurements were created in the dentin's mid-coronal region.TheraCal LC (TLC) liner-filled dentin surfaces were etched for 15 sec in group I samples, then two adhesive coatings were applied.Etchant and adhesive treatment were not applied to the dentin surfaces in group II.A polyethylene tube was inserted into the liner-filled cavities in both groups, and Cention-N was restored. After being light-cured, the samples were examined using a Universal testing machine to determine shear bond strength (SBS).Results: Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance, which revealed a statistically significant difference between the groups. The mean and standard deviation of SBS scores were tabulated. Conclusion: Within the limitations of the present study, resin tags, adhesive's lateral branches, and hybrid layer formation create a strong bond by total-etch adhesives. Thus, the use of Adper Single Bond 2 total-etch adhesive may enhance the bonding capacity of TLC to Cention-N.Clinical significance: The bond strength between the pulp-capping agent and restorative materials plays a pivotal role in reinforcing the clinical success of the procedure. The current study emphasizes the implications of adhesive bonding as a method to reinforce the shear strength at the interface against dislodging forces.
