Posterior wedging of the 5th lumbar vertebral body in lumbo-sacral spondylolisthesis together with the degree of slip have been measured. Comparison is made with the vertebral body contour in patients without spondylolisthesis. The average wedging in spondylolisthesis is significantly greater than in patients without this condition, and forms a characteristic radiological sign. The degrees of wedging and of slip show a statistically valid correlation.
