We report observations of cellular growth at the smectic-B--smectic-A interface of the liquid crystal 40.8. We link the existence of an angular discontinuity at the cell tips to the missing orientations in the equilibrium shape. The cell drift that we observe can be explained as resulting from the diffusion anisotropy in the smectic-A phase. Finally, we describe how facets destabilize.
