There was little relationship between postharvest resistance to fruit rot caused by Botrytis cinerea Pers. ex. Fr. and that caused by Rhizopus spp. (probably R. stolonifer [Ehr ex. Fr.] Vuill) among 116 genetically diverse strawberry ( Fragaria × ananassa Duch .) clones. Only 5 clones showed some resistance to both organisms. Resistance to one or the other of the organisms was evident in some early generation derivatives of Fragaria chiloensis L. clones. Resistance to B. cinerea in the field (at harvest) was not necessarily associated with postharvest resistance to the organism or to Rhizopus spp.
