Ground calcium carbonate (GCC) was modified by stearic acid (SA), and SA-GCC hybrid materials were obtained. The modified GCC (SA-GCC) were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal gravimetric (TGA), particle size analysis and hydrophobicity. The results showed that SA was chemically bound onto the surface of GCC. GCC (60 wt %) modified with 1 wt % of SA was filled into epoxy matrix to prepare composite coating by high-pressure spraying method and thermal curing process. The properties of SA-GCC/epoxy composites coating, such as adhesion, corrosion protection, were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), autoclave testing and others instruments. The results demonstrated that SA-GCC/epoxy composites coating possess improved adhesion, corrosion resistance and thermal stability. High temperature and pressure testing indicated that the performance of such coating increased greatly.
