Angle-resolved photoelectron spectrometry employing synchrotron radiation is used to study oxygen atoms generated in a microwave discharge. The energy region below the 4 P e threshold associated with removal of a 2 s electron is addressed. Photoionization cross sections (σ) and asymmetry parameters (β) are obtained for both the O + ( 4 S 0 ), ε l and O + ( 2 D 0 ), ε l channels and evidence for autoionizing Rydberg series with 3 S 0 , 3 P 0 , and 3 D 0 symmetries, converging to the 4 P e ionic state, is observed.
