The dissociation of CCl2F2and CCl3F into metastable fragments following electron impact excitation

A number of dissociation channels in CCl 2 F 2 and CCl 3 F have been observed during time-of-flight spectroscopy following electron impact excitation. Fluorine atoms in the 3s 4 P 5/2 state and chlorine molecules were observed in addition to atoms in Rydberg states of high principal quantum number. Many of the processes observed involve the production of molecular ions during two-fragment dissociations.
