Summary In the primary and anamnestic antibody responses to heterologous serum protein antigens rapid antibody synthesis ceases with or shortly after the disappearance of detectable antigen. In the primary response there was no conclusive evidence of continued antibody production after the disappearance of antigen. In the anamnestic responses, however, antibody continued to be produced at a low level for more than 6 months after antigen could no longer be detected.
