The relative photoabsorption cross-section of the Li + atomic ion was measured using the dual laser plasma photoabsorption technique. The measurements were carried out in the photon energy range from 62 eV (1s2p discrete resonance) up to 190 eV, i.e. about two-and-a-half times the value of the first ionization potential ( I 1 = 75.64 eV). In the continuum, the relative photoabsorption data (with an estimated uncertainty of ±14%) are normalized to the theoretical photoionization cross-section, given in analytical form by Verner et al (Verner D A, Ferland G J, Korista K T and Yakovlev D G 1996 Astrophys. J. 465 487). Comparisons between calculated photoionization cross-sections and with relevant experimental data are presented.
