A general description is given of vacancy patterns in five compounds that contain unique oxygen vacancy patterns: LaSrCuGaO 5 , LaSrCuAlO 5 , YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 , LnSr 2 Cu 2 Ga0 7 , and Ba 2 La 2 Cu 2 Sn 2 O 11 . The structural similarity among the compounds is stressed by the presentation and examination of AO 3−x slices. The influence of the cations on the manner in which successive AO 3−x layers are stacked is discussed.
